  • Challenge

Many children live in slums on the outskirts of Lima, Peru. Because of the abject poverty in these areas, the majority of them are compelled to work as domestic servants. Children under 10 years old often suffer from burns during cooking and are subject to toxic chemicals while cleaning the house. As a result of their hard work, many of them do not attend school and do not have time to play with friends. They are not only forced to abandon childhood but also give birth to second-class citizens.

  • Solution

Children have to live in a sustained environment. Jugando Aprendo provides continuous training by former child domestic workers. Books, maps, and games are available for all children. They will be useful to improve their level of learning. The Jugando Aprendo center will provide children with a water supply system and high-quality drinking water. The center's psychologist will be responsible for children's physical and emotional health.

  • Long-Term Impact

This project offers poor children more equal capabilities to reach a better future for them and their future families. When children are forced to select work instead of education, they are deprived of the opportunity to build better lives. Jugando Aprendo seeks to break the cycle of poverty, passing from generation to generation, by providing a sustainable and very important enhancement of living conditions.
